Sexist discourse: Sexist discourse: discrimination of gender language. Example objectifying women

Second-wave or imperialist feminism: for example in the Afghanistan readings when they said that women are not being treated equally they use this pretext in order to justify their actions.

Protection scenario: When media doesn’t focus on starvation refugee and oppression they use women in order to cover their crime. But in reality they aren’t actually protecting women.

Self-Orientalization: see themselves the way the western views them. Syrian ngo three women describing their struggle self orientalization it was local ngo but they depicted them the same way the west did it. We see ourselves the way western people will see us.

Hymen-centric virginity: labeling women based on the presence of the hymen. For example the absence of the hymen in our culture represents as a dishonor to the family she comes from.

Idea body and beauty: The media portrays a certain image of beauty standard. For example, for a women to be considered beautiful she should be tall and skinny with long hair.

Commodity feminism: refers to the way females are being objectified for commercial reasons.

Stereotypes: are certain standards that are given to within a culture. For example: gender stereotypes are certain characteristics and standards given to females and males that define their sex. For example; men don’t cry.

Frames: when the media emphasizes specific values, facts, ethics and other considerations in a certain perspective. They define certain terms in their own way the way they want us to view them.

In the media there are certain regimes of beauty standards and cosmetic surgery that are portrayed to people. For example, there are certain advertisements that encourage women or men to have cosmetic surgery in order to look beautiful. They depict certain looks that are obligatory in order to look beautiful. As for men, they represent them as muscular and sturdy in ads. They indirectly tell the audience that in order to be a good looking man you should look muscular just like the ones we see in ads.
